Fayu Ujmu, an evil jungle spirit, appears to the Chachilla in the form of a human being with an enormous beak, which he uses to hack into his victims necks in order to suck out their brains.
In our story, Fayu Ujmu attacks the thirteen-year-old Indian boy Mico while he is helping build canoes in the jungle. In a ritual, the shaman tames the evil spirit, and charges the father with finding and capturing him.
Tied down with a fishing net, wrapped up in large leaves, and hanging from a pole like a dead animal, Fayu Ujmu is dragged into the village, where the entire community and the pot in which he is to be boiled, await him. But as the beast is carefully unwrapped, it is not the dangerous jungle spirit, but a friendly White man who appears. He hands out candy and balloons, and brings everyone to dance with the help of a portable radio. The villagers crowd around him and excitedly grab for his presents.
But Mico remains unconscious
