I respect your opinion but Paige actually was the original, Carpenter's version was a cover. London's West End was the originator of the muscical and Paige was the first to define the song. It's great to see American artists like Idina Menzel etc. come to the fore but typically it's been London that has bred the musical classics and by default the artists that have claimed them. I do think Paige is superior, by far, in her performance.

She's undeniably a great singer but Elaine Paige will always be the master of this song and, as I said whilst she's a great singer, there's a really clear American intonation to her voice which is a little distracting.
