unknown. The song has been around in Ireland and England for two centuries. There are also other versions who refer to other cities than Belfast, including "London City" and a fictional "golden city". Almost any Irish Folk Band has made a cover of the song.....

They are from Belfast.They are Irish as in Northern Ireland. You can call them British,but English refers to well..England.
